USDA doles out $9.5M to expand independent meat processing

The U.S. Department of Agriculture distributed $9.5 million to small meat and poultry processors to help them expand their operations and compete with large meatpackers. The grant money will be used to buy equipment and expand processing capacity as a part of a more considerable USDA effort to increase competition in meat and poultry markets.
